  1. Look, don't get me wrong here, I LOVE Aretha. But this CD, IMHO falls short in it's entirety. HOWEVER, Aretha singing "Crazy, He Calls Me Crazy" is incomparable and simply glorious. It is in my top three of best Jazz Vocals of all time. On the other end of the spectrum, her treatment of "Moody's Mood" does not do the tune justice at all/5(13).

  4. Aug 17,  · The Jazz Side Of The Soul Queen Jazz was central to Aretha Franklin's musicianship, however far she rambled. Without it we'd be remembering .
  5. A good anthology that covers various album cuts, B-sides, and assorted material in a jazz vein that Aretha cut for Columbia. It's great to hear her underrated piano playing given some more space, and Columbia should really reissue her Dinah Washington tribute album, from which they pulled a couple of these songs. Aretha wasn't a jazz vocalist from the standpoint of approach or inspiration, but.

  7. Crazy in love, you see Like the wind that shakes the bough, He moves me with a smile The very difficult, I will do right now; The impossible will take a little while And I say I'll care forever, and I really will care forever, Even if I, even if I, even if I have to hold up the sky Crazy, he calls me well, maybe, baby, maybe, I'm.
  8. You wouldn't call it a jazz album, but you'd also be wrong to insist otherwise. Another anecdote from Respect: McRae recalls listening to Soul '69 at Vaughan's house, and fixating on "Crazy He Calls Me," a standout track: It starts out slow, just Franklin and a trio. She takes her time.
